features

We have designed the accommodation to be as practical and comfortable as possible, without being over-specified or over-engineered. Our goal is to create shelters and small homes that offer a sense of safety and security for their occupants, while recognising that these are intended as transitional places to stay.

The materials and components we select are of high quality, ensuring the robustness and durability required for their intended use.

We also prioritise the use of low-carbon, recycled, and natural materials wherever possible — because while addressing one crisis, we must not exacerbate others, such as the depletion of natural resources or the worsening impacts of climate change.

  • Recycled pallets are the perfect base for the emergency shelters.

    heavy-duty pallet base

These heavy-duty recycled plastic pallets are ideal for the base of the emergency shelters, giving protection from surface water, but also for easier relocation of the shelter.

  • Low-carbon ground screws create minimal impact.

    ground screw foundations

Our buildings typically sit on steel ground screws that no more than a day to install, and there’s no (high-carbon) concrete in the ground.

  • An engineered timber frame using only FSC certified wood.

    timber frame

All of the timber used in the construction of our buildings is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified with waste being collected by our recycling partners Emerge.

  • We're using recycled/natural insulation.

    recycled/natural insulation

We use SupaSoft (recycled plastic bottles) - this super eco material is vapour permeable, very snug and fantastic for the environment. Sheep’s wool is an alternative option.

  • precise timber frame detailing

Precision factory-made timber engineered pods, shelters and homes.

We ensure our buildings are detailed and (factory) built to the same high quality as our permanent homes - they will perform to exactly the same standards.

  • High performance Pro Clima breather and VCL/airtight membranes.

    high performance membranes

To allow the building to “breathe” and avoid condensation and mould issues, we use very high quality vapour control membranes for the roof and walls

  • Velfac aluminium-timber composite doors and windows.

    aluminium-timber windows

The high-quality Velfac doors and windows have aluminium-clad timber frames. Double glazing is standard, with triple glazing also available. (Not included in the shelters.)

  • High security locks protect the occupants, whilst still maintaining access for support staff.

    high security

All of our shelters, temporary accommodation and homes have high-security but easily accessible locks which can be adapted to a specific need.

  • Sustainable laminate panels.

    laminate walls & ceiling

Internal linings are white as standard, with pale maple as an alternative. A cost-effective OSB (oriented strand board) finish is also available and standard in emergency shelters.

  • Recycled hard-wearing carpet.

    recycled carpet

A stylish yet very durable finish to the space, it’s made using recycled nylon yarn and achieves Cradle to Cradle Certified® Bronze and Indoor Air Comfort Gold standards.

  • A highly resilient rubber floor covering.

    rubber flooring

This high performance resilient flooring is slip resistant (R10), fire resistant, very easy to clean with no coatings required and is a natural sustainable material.

  • Miss Print wallpaper

Wallpapered featured walls make our homes a little more... homely.

To make the larger homes more homely, we have a range of designs for an optional finish on key walls - all papers are from a PEFC-certified source and only vegetable inks are used.
